Hash Generator

Compute MD5 and SHA family digests for strings or local files using SparkMD5 and Web Crypto. Use it for integrity checks, cache keys, and comparing downloads — never for password storage. All hashing runs on-device so file contents never leave your computer.

Runs entirely in your browser. Your data never leaves this device.

How it works

  1. Enter text or select a file.
  2. We compute MD5 (SparkMD5) and SHA family digests via Web Crypto SubtleCrypto.
  3. Copy any digest — nothing is uploaded.

FAQ

Are hashes computed on a server?

No. SHA algorithms use Web Crypto; MD5 uses the SparkMD5 library in-browser.

Is MD5 secure for passwords?

No. MD5 is for checksums only — never for password storage. Use Argon2/bcrypt/scrypt on a trusted backend.

Can I hash files?

Yes. Choose Hash file to digest the file bytes locally without uploading.

Which algorithm should I pick?

Prefer SHA-256 or SHA-512 for modern integrity checks. MD5/SHA-1 remain for legacy checksum compatibility.

Are digests logged?

No. Digests exist only in your browser session until you copy or leave the page.
